Bob’s PSA: Other ways to enjoy the web
There are lots of other fun places on the web (I know, you thought Bob was it, right?). Here are some of Bob’s favorite places:
This is why you’re fat
http://thisiswhyyourefat.com/
Is it social commentary, or just an excuse for people to think up new, sick ways to deep-fry food? We may never know. But now they have a book!!

Robot a Day
http://robotaday.com/
“Robot a day” is now “robot a couple of times a week”, (due to a new, secret project?) but it’s still the same cuteness. With over 280 robots – and counting – the creator is amassing a robot army to take over the world. Educate yourself. Be perpared.
Cracked.com
http://www.cracked.com/
Ah, yes. Can you really describe a website that posts almost daily articles with such titles as “6 Movie Plots Made Possible by Bafflingly Bad Decisions” or “Hollywood’s 6 Favorite Offensive Stereotypes“? Not really. There will always be those people that get offended at such comedy. Don’t be that person – Bob doesn’t much care for that person. Just enjoy it.
America’s Next Top Model – Cracked.com style
RiffTrax
You may be saying to ye self: “Arrrg, Bob, what be a ‘rifftrax’?” Well, my dearest, scurviest dog, RiffTrax are hilarious DVD commentaries done by the stars of Mystery Science Theater 3000 (or MST3K to those in the know).
You listen to a RiffTrax in sync with your movie. As they say on their website, it’s like watching a movie with your funniest friends. Since Bob only has one friend, and that friend is un-funny firstmate Arnav, it’s important to both of them to have that bunch-
of-funny-guys-watching-stupid-movies experience. And RiffTrax provides that for them.
Thank you, Rifftrax. Thank you.
There are 70+ movies that have been Riffed. Most of them are even movies you’ve heard of! Some of Bob’s favorites include Eragon, Twilight, and X-men. The newly released Dragon Wars: D-War (link) will hopefully be just as awesome!!
WHERE DO I GET IT?
From their website, of course! You can search through their selection of movie commentaries or just see what’s new! Now, here’s the thing: What you’re buying for $3.99 isn’t the movie itself. What you are buying is the commentary audio file! You have to go buy/rent the movie itself. (Bob would be disgraced with you if you illegally downloaded the movie). In the description they tell you which version of the movie they’re using. You can sync the video/audio yourself (they’ll help you) or you can use their new RiffTrax Player. There are some Riffs that are the video and commentary, and these you can usually get for $0.99 (Bob recommends Shake Hands with Danger). They’re not full length movies but they’re still awesome. The prices are good and the Riffs are golden. Try one out and see for yourself.
Squiby Adoptables pt2
Bob just can’t get enough of them! But it’s driving him crazy trying to get enough clicks on them to level up!! (Melinda is slightly concerned…)
Check out http://www.squiby.net/user/pillage-and-plunder for all Bob’s adoptables! Or, check out the Wee Ninjas thread!
Squiby Adoptables
WHAT IS IT?
OH LORDY! What has Bob gotten himself into?!
Bob’s lovely, elegant, amazing wife was browsing around the internet when she stumbled upon Squiby, a virtual pet adoption site. Although neither one of them really understand the purpose of it, they have fallen in love with the idea! Bob especially, who created an account and set out to adopt adorable pets!
The novelty of Squiby seems to be that you can not only adopt pets, but create your own adoptables as well. Against Bob’s will, Melinda created a wee ninja adoptable (even with a pirate husband, she still loves those cute plushie ninjas!)
The pets are adoptable with or without an account. You get to name the pet and select it’s gender. You start with an “egg”, and the more people click on your pet, the more it levels. Usually around level 100 it evolves, or “hatches”. Depending on the creator, it may evolve several more times as it’s level increases. When creating a pet, you can set what level it evolves and how many evolutions it has.
The fun seems to be picking eggs that will hatch into the cutest pets!
AND OF COURSE IT’S FREE.
Now, why don’t you visit all of Bob’s new pets and then go adopt your own? Go!
These and Bob’s other pets can be found here: http://www.squiby.net/user/pillage-and-plunder. Now go and click on them! Click on them all~!
RocketDock
WHAT IS IT?
Being a pirate, Bob isn’t into making things “pretty”. Unfortunately for Bob, his wife Melinda is. And she’s very computer savvy. In Melinda’s search to make the world beautiful, she wanted to add some pizazz to her Windows-run computer. So she turned to the one place that could help her: The Internet!
What she found was RocketDock, a program that creates a Mac-like dock to hold all the icons that were cluttering up her desktop. It was simple to install and the best part was, it was completely FREE. There is only one version – no advanced version with better features that you have to pay for. And it’s easy to add and change icons. All those ugly icons clogging up your desktop can be swept up and organized neatly. The dock can be put on any of the four sides of the monitor screen and the dock itself has different visual styles that can be changed to suit your mood or wallpaper. It’s perfect for anyone who wants a little Mac style without having to get a Mac!
WHERE DO I GET IT?
GO TO http://www.rocketdock.com/ RIGHT NOW! It’s FREE and simple to install. Then get your butt to deviantart.com, where you can find a massive amount of icons (dA dock icons) and dock skins (dA dock skins). You can also make your own icons, since RocketDock can use any form of picture file, not just .ico! There’s no reason NOT to try it!
WD My Passport Portable Hard Drives
WHAT IS IT?
Bob is a pirate on the go. And every pirate on the go needs a handy, portable hard drive with some serious storage capacity. Whether it’s for his vast collection of pirate shanties or his plethora of sea-worthy snapshots, the WD My Passport portable hard drive is big enough to hold all Bob’s digital files. It’s also small enough to fit under his pirate hat (about 5 by 3 inches)! Convenient!
My Passport comes in an assortment of colors (ranging from bright pink to black) and 4 different GB sizes. If you don’t know what a portable hard drive / external hard drive is, it’s basically just extra space for your computer when it starts to get bogged down with all those pictures and tunes. Moving files onto an external can free up space on your computer and help it run faster. My Passport is extra awesome because unlike some older external hard drives, it doesn’t require it’s own power adaptor: it just plugs right into your USB drive!!
WHERE DO I GET IT?
If you’re not picky, just go to your local name-brand office supply store / electronics store and get one now! Bob got his at Circuit City on sale a while ago. However, if you want a certain color, check out WD’s site: http://store.westerndigital.com/store/wdus/en_US/DisplayProductDetailsPage/categoryID.13094100/subCategory.13227500/parid.13092300/catid.13093000. Price ranges from $120 to $200 (for the My Passport Essential models). There are 4 sizes: 500GB, 400GB, 320GB, and 250GB. The sites gives pretty good in depth information (scroll down to the bottom of the page). It’s a must have! Awesome gift idea, too!
